InRoads Site SolutionsAre you InRoads? Do you do a lot of grading? If so, you have several options. First, if you can move to OpenRoads, move to OpenRoads. Automatic updates of the engineering. Export back to DTM (and ALG, if you need to) easily, for SS2 use. Powerful stuff. The future. If you can't move to OpenRoads, InRoads has two discrete "site" grading solutions. Native InRoads GradingIf you have just a little grading to do (outside of corridors), there are some tools in InRoads that are pretty powerful, including Generate Longitudinal Feature (GLF) and Generate Side Slope. GLF creates 3D linestrings from other 3D linestrings in pretty much every way Civil Engineering Designers can think of. There are a number drawbacks to doing non-corridor grading it InRoads: updates require a lot of manual revision. There is no "memory" of the relationships that produced the model. The InRoads Surface Modeling for Roadway Designers class in this Learning Path goes over the traditional InRoads Site tools.
InRoads Site ModelerInRoads Site Modeler is "new" InRoads SELECTseries 2 technology that provides automatic updating of engineering changes and automates a lot of the manual work you used to have to do with the older InRoads tools. "Surfaces" are automatically triangulated and contours displayed. There are very nice ease-of-use tools like "Adjust Elevation by Volume" for instant balancing. Here's a good learning path for InRoads Site Modeler.
